JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: Under the direction of the Director of Campaign & Leadership Gifts, the Campaign Giving Manager executes the identification, cultivation and highly personalized solicitation of individual donors and prospects targeted for the MSO’s A Grand Future campaign. These donors and prospects may elect to make gifts through charitable funds, family foundations, or privately-held corporations. The Campaign Giving Manager is expected to meet in-person with donors and prospects and be externally focused, thereby enhancing the donors’ relationships with the MSO. Knowledge of music and/or the arts is preferable.  


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage a portfolio of approximately 150-175 individual donors and prospects who have the capacity to give significant multi-year gifts to the MSO’s capital campaign, with the goal of maximizing support from each donor.


Portfolio make-up:

The Campaign Giving Manager will handle a portfolio of high-capacity individuals with varying degrees of connection to the MSO, including subscribers, single-ticket buyers, event attendees, and Annual Fund donors. The Campaign Giving Manager will work to qualify prospects through research, in person discovery meetings, and data analysis.


Goals for these donors include:

oCreation of an individualized Moves Management plan for each donor.

oUnderstand the MSO donors’ individual motivations and aspirations to help drive increased giving.

oUtilize research, data analysis, personal contacts, volunteers, and staff to create lasting relationships with MSO donors.

oSolicitation of significant multi-year campaign gifts alongside, in most cases, recurring annual fund gifts.


Prepare and write proposals, solicitation letters and reports as needed.


Assist with various development events and functions to raise awareness and contributions.


Work select Maestro’s Club events and serve as Development representative at MSO concerts and events as needed.


Assist with other campaigns or projects as directed or needed.


Additional duties may be assigned for professional growth and as the needs of the office change.




CONTACTS WITH OTHERS: This position is highly visible and has contact with MSO donors, MSO ticket buyers and concert attendees, MSO Board members, Forte, , campaign volunteers, MSO staff and orchestra members.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra seeks a candidate with three to five years of development experience in a non-profit environment. A proven track record of success in relationship fundraising management is required. This position is highly visible and has contact with MSO leadership, campaign volunteers, MSO staff and orchestra members and prominent community leaders. The ideal candidate must be able to meet the donor where he/she is, and tailor strategies to his/her interests. He or she must be adept at soliciting gifts from prospective and current donors and at developing relationships with prospects new to the organization.  A solid understanding of fundraising principles is required. He or she will also have a keen appreciation for the organization’s history, mission and contributions to the arts.  The successful candidate will welcome the opportunity to attend evening and weekend concerts on a regular basis, to participate in special events, and to become a visible and active member of the Milwaukee community.


EDUCATION: A Bachelor’s degree (or a combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job). Ease in working with donor databases is required. Tessitura database experience is helpful. This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience with music desired.  Intellectual curiosity is a must.


EQUIPMENT AND LICENSES REQUIRED:  Access to a car and a valid driver’s license are essential to perform this position.  Must have a cell phone.  Must be able to use a computer and related software, as well as a printer, telephone, voice mail, fax, copier/scanner and calculator.
