Bountiful HARVEST

Thursday, January 15, 2009

By: Jonathan Abarbanel

For the ancient Greeks, the god of theater (and also of wine and fertility) was Dionysos, so it’s appropriate that Chicago’s Polarity Ensemble Theatre calls its playwriting award the Dionysos Cup.

The troupe has announced that playwright Lisa Rosenthal is the winner of the Dionysos Cup 2008 for her play, THE GOOD HARVEST, a tale of triplets facing family truths, selected from among four finalists presented in Polarity’s festival of new plays. Rosenthal is a resident playwright at Chicago Dramatists.

Meantime, Polarity Ensemble Theatre’s next mainstage production (Feb. 13-March 22) is the world premiere of a play presented during Dionysos Cup 2006, THE WHITE AIRPLANE, by dramatist and novelist Darren Callahan. It’s described as a surrealist mystery about a Japanese typist, perhaps a murderer, who tells a friend he actually is a Pittsburgh car salesmen living inside another man’s body.
